The summer dress Marilyn Monroe wore during the airblast scene in The Seven Year Itch was aurtioned off Saturday in Los Angeles.
$4.6 million was the final bid, and that’s more than twice what analysts predicted the garment would fetch.
It was part of an overflowing collection (3,500 give or take) of film memorabilia held by collector Debbie Reynolds, which was originally going to rest in a museum.
Judy Garland‘s ruby slippers from The Wizard of Oz went for $1.75 million, while $135,300 won Charlie Chaplin‘s tramp hat and Elizabeth Taylor‘s National Velvet riding livery was sold for $73,800.
But it was Marilyn Monroe‘s other items that stole the show (and enriched the sellers), with her Gentlemen Prefer Blondes red bejeweled dress and fancy feathered hat going for $1.47 million and her River Of No Return getup that left the house at $510,000.
