The Voice may have only relied on the vocal pipes of the contestants in the beginning, but now, with the help of the superstar mentors, the singers will have to step up their stage presence as they go head-to-head with each other.

The participants are all hoping they make it into the live performance rounds – and some have given up part of their lives to get there.

The younger contestants were lucky, however, they tell EntertainmentHeartbeat.com that they still managed to attend their proms despite the TV schedule.

“I actually got to go to prom this year,” Tori Thompson gushes. “So, I was excited.”

“I was home for my junior prom,” Raquel Castro begins. “It was a couple of days ago. I got to go with my friends. It was a lot of fun.”

And now they’re down to business for those battle rounds – and they’ll have to steal themselves because the competition is coming in to win as well – though most everyone’s nerves are pumped to the max.

“I’m pretty freaked out to watch,” Dia Frampton acknowledges. “Whenever anything big happens I try to pretend that it’s not then it kind of feels in the middle. I’m going to eat a lot of popcorn and hang out with my family.”

“Honestly, the anticipation is pretty killer,” Devon Barley confesses. “Having to battle one of your teammates is just a crazy experience and now having to watch myself do it is going to be even more nerve wracking.”

“I feel like I’ve made 31 new wonderful friends and the battle round is intense,” Rebecca Loebe adds. “Half of the people in our group at pitted against the other half, but it’s also brought out the best in people. I’m singing with Devon – and Devon went into the battle not knowing the songs as well as I did. But, then while we were practicing, Beverly McClean comes in and starts suggesting harmonies for him. My roommate was struggling with her song and Patrick (Thomas) was helping her figure out her key change. Everybody really pitched in and worked together.”

Ultimately, this is a competition and winning is still the goal.

It’s game time,” Kelsey Rey points out. “It’s our battle round and I’m super pumped. I can’t wait for the battle round.”

“I hope we go on,” Taylor Thompson, who is a journalism student, says laughing. “This would be a lot more fun than journalism.”

Whoa, whoa, whoa, we should talk about that…OK, it is more fun.

The Voice begins 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
