American Idol begins its finale with Scotty McCreery (17) and Lauren Alaina (16) squaring off for the title and that big music contract. These are the two youngest out of the contestants this season and they’ve become friends – and according to McCreery, they plan to keep close no matter who wins.
“We both tell each other at this point we both won,” McCreery insists. “Whoever wins Wednesday night it’s going to be good times and no hard feelings. It’s a competition, but we don’t think about it like that.”
“We were buddies,” Alaina acknowledges. “It’s a competition, but I forget a lot of the time because we go to school together and we just hang out and we’re like really good friends. I’m so glad I’m in the finale with Scotty because I love him to death and I’ll be happy either way. Of course I want to win…I came here to win, but if Scotty won I would be happy for him.
They’re both prepping for tonight and that means shaking off any jitters to give the best performance possible. For Alaina that means practicing hard to keep the tunes fresh in her mind.
“I’m trying to learn all of my words to my songs,” she confesses adding, “I’m so crazy on show day because I try to cram in all that I can and be as prepared as I can ‘cause I don’t want to mess up. Last week I missed my key change, so I’m shooting for not doing anything like that.”
McCreery is putting pedal to the metal to try to guarantee a solid performance.
“Rehearsing, rehearsing, rehearsing all hours of the day,” he begins. “Listening to our songs and hopefully we don’t screw up.”
The last leg of their American Idol journey begins 8:00 p.m. ET/PT tonight and concludes Wednesday starting at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on FOX.
