Arnold Schwarzenegger during better times
A week ago Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver shocked the world by announcing that their 25-year perfect marriage had ended.
If anything, the news today about California’s most famous couple is even more incredible.
The Los Angeles Times says that the Schwarzeneggers separated because Arnold had fathered a child with a trusted member of their household staff .
The 20-year serving staff member was apparently under Shriver‘s nose all during the affair, the pregnancy and for a remaining decade.
“This is a painful and heartbreaking time,” Shriver said. “As a mother, my concern is for the children. I ask for compassion, respect and privacy as my children and I try to rebuild our lives and heal. I will have no further comment.”
Schwarzenegger released his own statement, but what can you really say?
“After leaving the governor’s office, I told my wife about this event, which occurred over a decade ago. I understand and deserve the feelings of anger and disappointment among my friends and family. There are no excuses and I take full responsibility for the hurt I have caused. I have apologized to Maria, my children and my family. I am truly sorry.”
