Movies on DVD

The Mechanic is a remake of the 1972 classic Charles Bronson pic of the same name, but with Jason Statham starring as an elite hit man who is teaching his trade to an apprentice. Naturally, the apprentice (Ben Foster) has a connection to one of the Mechanic’s previous victims.

If you’re going to remake a Bronson action flick, be sure to hire an actor that can pull it off…Statham is tough enough to make it work.

Special Features: movieIQ, plus deleted scenes.

The Rite stars Colin O’Donoghue as seminary student Michael Kovac, who travels to Italy to take an exorcism course from Father Lucas Trevant (Anthony Hopkins).

Kovac is, of course, cynical and looking for a logical, medical reason for the strange behaviors of each possessed person Father Lucas Trevant is trying to help. However, Kovac gets a rude awakening of just how real possession is when a demon inhabits Father Trevant’s body.

The Other Woman revolves around Emilia (Natalie Portman), a woman whose new husband Jack (Scott Cohen) is recently divorced.

Emilia has to learn live with her new stepson William (Charlie Tahan) and somehow find a way to get along with ex-wife Carolyn (Lisa Kudrow), which will be tough considering Emilia hooked up with Jack prior to his divorce.

The Roommate stars Minka Kelly as Sara, a college student who learns that her roommate Rebecca (Leighton Meester) is obsessed with her. As you might expect that obsession turns violent quickly.

Special Features: Director Christian E. Christiansen’s commentary, movieIQ, alternate opening sequence, obsession: the making of The Roommate featurette, The Roommate: next generation of stars, dressing dangerously.

Elephant White is a straight-to-video release starring Djimon Hounsou as hired killer Curtie Church, who is in Thailand buying weapons from Jimmy the Brit (Kevin Bacon), an expatriate.

Enter Mae (Jirantanin Pitakporntrakul), a young Thai girl, who is creating problems for them both.

Covert Affairs: Season One is USA Network’s action-thriller starring Piper Perabo as Annie Walker, a new recruit to the CIA. She’s beautiful, smart and she can without question kicks serious butt.

Royal Pains: Season Two is another of USA Network’s formula TV series – and like the rest of the bunch this television show is loaded with charismatic characters and snappy storylines.

Royal Pains centers on the adventures of Dr. Hank Lawson (Mark Feuerstein) who after being wrongly blamed for a patient’s death, leaves the ER and becomes a doctor for hire in the upscale area of The Hamptons.

Flashpoint: Third Season follows a special tactical team that takes on a variety of tough cases from rescuing hostages and defusing bombs to breaking up gangs.

This was a CBS replacement series that clicked with viewers almost immediately and with good reason…it’s gritty, realistic and full of heart.

The Bionic Woman: Season Two follows the adventures of Jaime Sommers (Lindsay Wagner), a former tennis pro who is turned into a super-human after a near fatal skydiving accident by the special bionic surgical team of Oscar Goldman (Richard Anderson) and Dr. Rudy Wells (Martin E. Brooks).
