Although not in the atrium of the Trump Tower, and not the announcement that he wanted to make on May 25, Donald Trump released an electronic statement today saying that he would not run for the presidency (of the U.S.) this year.
“I maintain the strong conviction that if I were to run, I would be able to win the primary and ultimately, the general election,” Trump‘s statement said hours ago. “I have spent the past several months unofficially campaigning and recognize that running for public office cannot be done half heartedly. Ultimately, however, business is my greatest passion and I am not ready to leave the private sector.”
Reports, ranging from wise men to cynics said that Trump was swayed more by pot-sweetening by NBC than other influences, with (unnamed) sources intimating that the network had dangled a $60 million contract for the unbashful billionaire’s signature and three guaranteed continued years for The Apprentice.
However, most agree that Trump was serious about his desire to be CEO of the country and belief that he could do the best job.
EntertainmentHeartbeat.com caught up with Mark Burnett on Saturday and the subject of Donald Trump‘s possible candidacy for President of the United States came up.
This was, of course, before Trump decided not to run, but Burnett was quick to point out there are a number of reasons why Trump was entitled to run – beginning with the good work they’ve done together for charity on The Celebrity Apprentice.
