THOR was still the box office champ in its second week in theaters. The action-adventure brought in an additional estimated $34.5 million between Friday and Sunday placing it at number one. That brings the total revenue to date to an estimated $119.2 mil, which puts it closer to the $150 mil costs of the movie.
Bridesmaids, the pic a number of reviewers are calling Hangover for chicks, landed at number two for its debut in theaters. It grabbed $24.4 million over the weekend, which is significant consider the entire film had a $32.5 mil budget.
Fast Five, which was in second place last week, dropped 39.8 percent, but still managed to take the number three position. Fast Five added $19.5 million more to its total tally which brings its overall box office to $168.7 mil – well over its $125 million budget after just three weeks in theaters.
Priest, the supernatural vampire-killing clergyman flick, debuted to a modest $14.5 million and took fourth place over the weekend. It looks like moviegoers were paying attention – the pic received largely negative reviews from critics.
The animated feature Rio held firm to its fifth place status taking in an additional $8 million this weekend. Not only is that a miniscule five-percent drop, but that added revenue brings the totals to date to $124.9 mil, well over the $90 million budget – and all in just five weeks out.
