Sterling Beaumon is making a guest appearance on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (Wednesdays, 10:00 p.m. ET/PT, NBC) as a teen who is potentially a monster.
My character on SVU is a teenage boy struggling with abuse of alcohol and he also is assumed to be a serial rapist and killer,” Beaumon reveals.
Assumptions and reality could be different things, but the actor states firmly he won’t be spilling his guts before the episode airs.
“I was on one of the most protected shows with their information ever,” he points out adding, “Lost was incredibly protective of their plotlines so you’re not going to get anything out of me.”
That’s not quite accurate. Beaumon is eager to discuss the experience of working on a demanding series like SVU. He was, after all, the new kid on the block, but the cast and crew were quite welcoming.
“It’s a family when you’re on a show like that and you’ve been filming 10-12 years now, he gushes. “When you’ve been on a show in the same city with the same people for so long you really get into a groove. It’s very cool when they let you into that family. They treat you so well and talk to you like every other person on set.”
Beaumon comes from a bit of a showbiz family. His grandfather was actor Martin Beaumon, whose career hit its high in the 1930s with Trail of the Lonesome Pine. His great uncle Leon Beaumon was popular in the ‘20s and ‘30s in a series of modest films like The Law Comes to Texas and Pioneer Trail. Both men died long before he was born in 1995, but he has seen them in action.
“I’ve seen some of my grandpa and my uncle’s work,” he recalls. “It’s really awesome that they were able to do that when they were out here.”
Unlike his relatives, Beaumon has a few interests outside of acting and one of them is music. He’s currently devoting much of his time to that and has a new single about to drop.
“This one is called Firing Blind,” he says. “I do like a rock feel with a little bit of pop mixed in. It’ll be available on iTunes in a few days.”
Still, he’s not pigeonholing himself into either acting or music. Beaumon plans to follow both of his passions and do them both well.
“I’m an actor and a musician.”
