Harry Morgan, best known for his role as Col Potter on M*A*S*H has died at his Los Angeles home at the age of 96.
The actor had a long career in both film and television beginning in 1942 in To the Shores of Tripoli. He went onto star in over 150 feature films and television shows – and worked with a number of Hollywood’s greatest directors including William Wellman (The Ox-Bow Incident), Vincente Minnelli (Madame Bovary) and Stanley Kramer (Inherit the Wind).
Morgan also shared the screen with a who’s who of stars from Charles Laughton and Maureen O’Sullivan to Spencer Tracy and Lionel Barrymore.
Though M*A*S*H is especially memorable, TV fans also know him for his role as Office Bill Gannon in 1960s version of Dragnet starring opposite the show’s creator Jack Webb.
Morgan continued to make appearances until 2002.
Harry Morgan leaves behind three sons, eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren – as well as volumes of wonderful performances for his many fans.
