The Rum Diary is based on the debut novel by Hunter S. Thompson. It’s no secret that Johnny Depp was a huge fan and close friend of Thompson. He even played the gonzo journalist in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
In The Rum Diary, Depp plays Paul Kemp, a disillusioned and bored journalist who travels to the pristine island of Puerto Rico to write for a local newspaper that is run by demoralized editor Lotterman (Richard Jenkins). Naturally he gets immersed in the rum-soaked life of the island, but also becomes obsessed with Chenault (Amber Heard), an attractive Connecticut-born fiancée of an American entrepreneur named Sanderson (Aaron Eckhart).
Kemp eventually has to make a decision, to write a positive piece about Sanderson’s businese scheme for Puerto Rico, or to try to undermine Sanderson’s chances of success.
Puss in Boots takes place long before Boots (Antonio Banderas) even met Shrek. Back then he was a notorious fighter, lover and outlaw.
Boots becomes a hero after he sets off on an adventure with sexy Kitty Softpaws (Salma Hayek) and the mastermind Humpty Dumpty (Zach Galifianakis) to save his town.
The movie utilizes the voice talents of a number of famed actors including Billy Bob Thornton and Amy Sedaris.
In Time is a sci-fi suspense-thriller that takes place in a world where people stop aging at 25 years old, but then only live an additional year. However, wealthy people can buy time while the poor…not so much.
When Will Salas (Justin Timberlake) is falsely accused of murder, he must figure out a way to bring down a system so he can make it through another day – and hopefully much longer.
Anonymous is set in Elizabethan England and speculates on the notion that William Shakespeare was merely a name on his classic works.
The movie makes its case for the real author being, in fact, Edward De Vere, Earl of Oxford (Rhys Ifans).
The pic is directed by Roland Emmerich of Independence Day and Godzilla fame.
