If there were any doubts of Scotty McCreery’s star power post American Idol win, his single Clear as Day debuted at number one on Billboard’s Top 200 chart.
That makes the Country singer the youngest male to ever debut at the top of the all-genre chart with his first album. McCreery is also the first Idol winner in eight years to land his debut album at the top of the Billboard 200 – and the first country male singer from the show to ever have that honor.
The last American Idol contestant to top 100,000 in first-week sales was Carrie Underwood in 2005. Now McCreery has joined that elite status.
Not bad for a 16-year-old kid who was originally an underdog on the show. Now just days after turning 18 years old, McCreery has snagged a heck of a gift.
“It’s a very good birthday present!” he said in a statement. “I can’t think of anything to top it!”
McCreery is set to perform the national anthem at game one of the world series on October 19th.
