Dancing With the Stars dancer Kym Johnson opens up for the first time about the fall that nearly ended her career.
After eight seasons on DWTS, a risky lift with her partner, NFL star Hines Ward, landed her in the ER with a torn tendon and sprained spinal cord.
“I remember thinking that this is the end — I may never be able to dance again,” Kym tells Life & Style in an exclusive interview. “I couldn’t feel my arms.”
Indeed, Kym learned that if she had fallen at a slightly different angle, she could have been paralyzed.
Kym turned to her doctor, who forbade her from dancing and started her on an exhausting rehabilitation regimen including painful physical therapy, hyperbaric chamber sessions and ultrasound therapy.
Now, Kym is completely healed, and she’s back for the new season of DWTS, which premieres on Sept. 19 on ABC. Partnered with David Arquette, Kym tells Life & Style that she’ll be more cautious this time around: “Now, I’m aware of my health and will never do anything stupid like that again.”
