“The Help” Heaps on Another Serving of First Place Box Office Pie

The Help held firmly onto the number one position in theaters this weekend raking in an additional $14.6 million. The movie cost $25 mil to make and has already amassed $118.9 million since its debut four weeks ago.

 

The Debt, an espionage thriller starring Helen Mirren and Tom Wilkinson, landed in second place over the holiday weekend grossing an estimated $9.9 million for its first week out.

 

The sci-fi/horror flick Apollo 18 came in at third place with $8.7 million, while horror pic Shark Night 3D slipped into fourth place just behind Apollo 18 with $8.3 million in box office between Friday and Monday.

 

Rise of the Planet of the Apes dropped from third to fifth place in its fifth week in theaters. The prequel to the successful Planet of the Apes franchise brought in an additional estimated $7.9 mil bringing its total box office to $160.1 in just five week. That’s also well over the $93 mil budget.
