It didn’t take convincing to get filmmaker Eli Roth psyched up for the new Discovery series Curiosity. Once the Hostel director heard who one of the other participants was, it was a no-brainer.
“Discovery called me and said, ‘We have a new series and so far we have Stephen Hawking and you…’ ”
Of course, Roth says that with a laugh, but he really was eager to jump into the project because of his “interest in the nature of fear.”
In fact, he says despite the gruesome scenes in his slasher flick Hostel, he’s always been more interested in why “someone would do such a terrible thing vs. the act (of murder) itself.”
So, naturally, evil will be the focus of his exploration for Curiosity, but it’s not the only element included in the show. The program will also delve into a number of subjects from parallel universes to exactly why set is fun.
Curiosity kicks off Sunday night, 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on all the Discovery channels including Discovery, The Learning Channel and Animal Planet. Other hosts scheduled to appear include Robin Williams, Brendan Fraser, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Samuel L. Jackson.
