Stop me if you’ve heard this before, but what if two completely different men; one family guy, the other womanizer, trade bodies? Well, that’s the premise of The Change-Up, a wacky comedy starring Ryan Reynolds and Jason Bateman. And laughs abound.
OK, yes it is a worn storyline and yes, you can probably predict just how it unfolds, so if you like this sort of comedy (no matter how many times you’ve seen it before), you might just enjoy The Change-Up,
I could point out that this is yet another film from Universal, who has had a negligible amount of hit movies in the last few years, but that would be cruel. Maybe this means that Universal’s entry from last week, Cowboys & Aliens will hold onto its barely-number-one position.
But, don’t bet on it. Rise of the Planet of the Apes is also opening this weekend and safe money is on that big-budged feature taking the top spot.
And Rise of the Planet of the Apes is a prequel to the hugely successful Planet of the Apes franchise. Which begs the question as to what’s left to tell in that story after the big reveal of the astronauts being on Earth in the future?
Four sequels and one remake later FOX is confident that the time is right to actually see how the apes transitioned into power over humans. And, of course, that is a result of mans own genetic engineering that leads to the development of intelligent apes.
It’s a blockbuster, with plenty of exciting stunts and maneuvers – and as long as you go into the theaters knowing what to expect you won’t be disappointed. Besides, the apes just look cool this time.
