Sarah Michelle Gellar Returns to “All My Children” to Say Goodbye to the Daytime Drama

Sarah Michelle Gellar is just one of many who are disappointed that All My Children is leaving broadcast TV. But, for her, it’s more personal.

Gellar originated the role of Kendall Hart on the daytime drama and even took home the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Young Actress in a Drama Series for AMC in 1995.

So, she called the producers and offered herself up for a guest appearance on the soap before it closes up shop for the finale.

“ I can today, officially confirm that I will be doing a guest spot on All My Children,” she begins. “When I heard that the show was cancelled, I didn’t understand. It just doesn’t make sense to me. I called Judy Wilson, who is the casting director and has been since I was there and I said, ‘I want to do something.’”

She won’t be reprising her role as Kendall though.

“I don’t want to be Kendall, that’s Alisha’s (Minshew) role, but I just wanted to be part of it. I have no idea what I’m going to be doing – I’ll take suggestions – but I will be doing one day. I’m excited.”

No further details yet on when Gellar will hit the set, but she’ll have to do some fancy shuffling. The actress is currently working on her new series thriller Ringer, which debuts in the fall on The CW.

DENISE RICHARDS ON CHARLIE SHEEN

Denise Richards on the cover of 'Us Weekly'

It’s been nearly nine months since Charlie Sheen trashed his hotel room and held a knife to porn star Capri Anderson‘s throat, but up until now, the details of that night have been kept largely under wraps.

The actor’s ex-wife Denise Richards — who was with Sheen at New York’s Plaza Hotel earlier that evening — opens up about the actor’s epic meltdown in the new issue of Us Weekly.

“Charlie invited me to this dinner with ‘friends,’ and once I realized what these women did for a living, I thought, ‘It’s one meal; you can suck it up and get through it,'” Richards recalls of dining with Sheen‘s porn star pals. “It’s not my place to judge how they make a paycheck.”

Richards goes into further detail in her new memoir. “After I quieted [our daughters Sam, 7, and Lola, 6] down, I climbed into bed; I had to get up early for my press. About an hour later, I was awakened by sounds outside my door, including walkie-talkies, which is never a good sign,” she writes. “A few minutes later, the cops showed up. Several officers went into Charlie’s room, and a sergeant came into mine.”

As the sergeant struggled to make sense of the situation (“Your ex-husband is staying in the room across the hall while you’re in this room?” he asked Richards. “And you went to dinner with him and there were hookers there at the table?”), the actress kept her composure and told him everything she knew.

“Charlie was put into an ambulance, and I rode with the sergeant to the hospital, though I insisted I had to be back at 4:30 a.m.,” she writes. “After making sure Charlie was stable and settled, the nice policeman gave me a ride back.”

AMY WINEHOUSE DIES AT 27

Amy Winehouse four years earlier. Credit: daniel arnold (CC-BY-SA 2.0 Generic)

“She was an extraordinary musician with a rare intuition as a vocalist and I am truly devastated that her exceptional talent has come to such an early end,” Tony Bennett said of the lady he had recently recorded duets with, Amy Winehouse. “…an artist of immense proportions.”

As a child in North London (Southgate area), Winehouse was often crooned by her Sinatra-loving father where she constantly sang in school to the irritation of her teachers.  Winehouse taught herself guitar and wrote songs by age 14.  She began earning real money soon after (including as a entertainment journalist) and her distinctive sound quickly attracted a number of record production suiters.

An interesting footnote is how Winehouse was kept a secret by one management group while they carefully ‘developed’ what they considered a genuine diamond in the rough.

Her first album came in 2003 with the jazz-influenced Frank, where every song was written by Winehouse.  International success arrived four years later with Back to Black, with its seamless classic pop, soul, jazz, rock and Winehouse‘s uncategorized voice.  Newsweek said she was “a perfect storm of sex kitten, raw talent and poor impulse control.”

Winehouse said that her smash album took so long because she suffered from writer’s block and that self-worth was linked to her creativity.  Back to Black won five Grammys and threw Winehouse (with her distinctive catty eyes, beehive hair, ancient mariner-like tatoos) into a shade of limelight she may not have wanted to go.

From September 2006 through the summer of ’07, Winehouse performed live, showing audiences that she was a genuine crowd-pleasing performer, but her show unraveled with a tour two months later.  In Burmingham, Winehouse reportedly slurred her words, stumbled along the stage, and when booed began crying and swearing at the audience.  The tour was canceled.

There were a few bursts of talent afterward, but nothing too original and everything often wound back to overindulgence and rehab.

Winehouse always remained popular with her fans, and so many covered her home today with floral displays, not far from where she last performed (for a moment) with her goddaughter Dionne Bromfield just three days ago.

HOW MUCH WILL YOU PAY TO WATCH CASEY ANTHONY TALK?

Casey Anthony mugshot

“‘Remember, fame is fleeting, but infamy is even more fleeting…” TV producer Al Taylor allegedly told Casey Anthony.  “In six weeks you’ll be worth $100,000, not a million dollars.’”

Taylor told Dr. Drew (on his HLN show) that he negotiated the first Casey Anthony interview for that early million dollars.

Other reports say that a bidding war with the networks is ongoing and Anthony‘s interview prize may be considerably larger than a mere million.

Then there’s the book, the movie, the speaking tour, the reality show.  She may well be the first individual to become a trillionaire.
