‘TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD’ CELEBRATION AT THE ACADEMY

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will showcase a new digital restoration of To Kill a Mockingbird in celebration of the film’s 50th anniversary on Wednesday, April 11, at 7:30 p.m. at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills.

The evening will feature an introduction by talk show host Tavis Smiley and an onstage discussion with Oscar®-nominated actress Mary Badham. The digital restoration is courtesy of Universal Pictures, which is marking its centennial this year.

Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Harper Lee, To Kill a Mockingbird (1962) became as much of a classic as its source, and the defining film of Gregory Peck’s career. Produced by Alan J. Pakula and directed by Robert Mulligan, the film features Peck as a Depression-era lawyer struggling against a prejudiced system to exonerate an African-American man falsely accused of rape.

For his iconic portrayal of Atticus Finch, Peck earned his fifth Best Actor nomination and only Oscar. Co-star Robert Duvall made his film debut as the mysterious Boo Radley, while a 10-year-old Badham also made her first screen appearance as Atticus’s daughter Scout.

The film unfolds as a coming-of-age story, as Scout learns about injustice, human frailties and the definition of heroism. Badham’s Oscar nomination for her performance made her the youngest actress with that honor at the time.

To Kill a Mockingbird earned a total of eight Academy Award® nominations and won three awards. In addition to the aforementioned, it received Oscars® for Black-and-White Art Direction (Alexander Golitzen, Henry Bumstead; Set Decoration: Oliver Emert) and Adapted Screenplay (Horton Foote), and nominations for Black-and-White Cinematography (Russell Harlan), Directing (Mulligan), Original Score (Elmer Bernstein) and Best Picture (Pakula, producer).

JENNIFER LAWRENCE INTERVIEW IN ‘ROLLING STONE’

Jennifer Lawrence has a way of making a first impression, as several of her Hunger Games co-stars and friends tell Rolling Stone. “I was on my bus,” says Woody Harrelson of first meeting Lawrence when filming The Hunger Games, “and on my bus I have a yoga swing. Jennifer comes on, and she goes, ‘Hi, Woody, I’m J— is that a sex swing?’ Her first sentence to me.”

Another Hunger Games co-star, Josh Hutcherson, also had a memorable first experience with Lawrence. “When I got cast, she called me up for one of those five-minute ‘Excited to work with you, blah, blah, blah’ things,” Hutcherson says. “The conversation started with her saying, ‘Think about a catheter going in – ouch!’ and then turns into a 45-minute rant about zombies and the apocalypse.”

And then there’s Zoë Kravitz, who appeared with Lawrence in X-Men: First Class and who is one of her best friends: “I’d met her a few times, and she was like, ‘You should come over and we’ll hang out.’ So I go over to her apartment, and she opens the door in a towel. She’s like, ‘Come in, sorry, you’re early, I was about to shower.’ And she drops her towel and gets in the shower, and starts shaving her legs, totally naked. She was like, ‘Are we here yet? Is this OK?’ And I was like, ‘I guess we’re there!'”

The Jennifer Lawrence article is in the upcoming issue of Rolling Stone, on newsstands Friday.

KEVIN ALEJANDRO IN A ‘BREAKOUT’ ROLE ON ‘KINGS’ POST ‘TRUE BLOOD’

Kevin Alejandro guest stars on "Breakout Kings." Photo courtesy of A&E.

Kevin Alejandro, may have bit the dust on True Blood, but he’s already picking up new acting gigs to keep himself in the game.

Alejandro is best know as Jesus Velasquez, the smokin’ hot love interested to Lafayette Reynolds (Nelson Ellis) on the HBO Vampire dramedy. But now, since his on-screen boy-toy offed him on True Blood, he’s transitioned into a guest starring stint on A&E’s drama series Breakout Kings.

Word is he’ll be doing a heap of killing of his own on Kings – but it appears that his character believes each victim needed butchering.

Sure Kings a one-off role, but let’s face it, dead doesn’t mean dead on True Blood, so perhaps it’s possible that Alejandro could return for season five…if the producers deem it necessary (pretty please).

OK, so I may be delusional, but it’ll be great to see Alejandro back in action.

Alejandro’s episode of Breakout Kings airs Sunday, March 25th, 10:00 p.m. ET/PT.

Life & Style got a sneak peek at the script and can confirm that Sharon, 54, who will play a dermatologist, and Sofia, 39, enjoy a ménage à trois with John Turturro’s gigolo character.

Shooting for the film is set to take place in New York City, beginning in April. Turturro will direct and play the gigolo, and Woody Allen will co-star as his pimp.

This isn’t the first time Stone has shared passionate sex scenes with a woman — she had a lesbian lover in Basic Instinct, and she played Ellen DeGeneres’ lover in HBO‘s If These Walls Could Talk.

Music icon Lionel Richie takes the next step of his storied career on Monday, March 26, with the release of his highly anticipated new album, Tuskegee, which features 13 of his timeless hits performed as duets with country stars.

“Tuskegee is one of the most special albums I have ever done in my life,” he says. “It’s a moment in time when all of these artists got together and celebrated music.”

With this worldwide release comes several firsts for Richie, including his first Billboard cover, which is the March 24 issue that is on stands now, and his first performance at South By Southwest in Austin, Texas, where he received rave reviews after taking the stage of the Billboard showcase on March 14. On Friday, he achieved another career first when he performed an hour-long live concert for HSN.

Richie will appear on the 47th annual Academy of Country Music Awards on CBS on April 1 (8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT).  Other appearances include Today, Late Show with David Letterman, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live and The Talk.  On April 2, the Academy of Country Music and dick clark productions will tape an all-star concert special, ACM PRESENTS: Lionel Richie and Friends–In Concert, airing on CBS on April 13.

Tuskegee is an exciting new chapter in a career that has seen album sales of more than 100 million, 22 Top 10s, five Grammys, an Academy Award for Best Original Song, a Golden Globe, and a host of other awards.

On this worldwide, multi-genre album, Richie is also joined by the likes of such superstars as Shania Twain, Kenny Rogers, Willie Nelson and Jimmy Buffett.

“By far, this is probably the most fun ever because of the fact I did not have a clue as to what it was going to be from one session to the next,” he says. “What started out as a group of very talented, very successful collaborations with great artists ended up brand new, very good old friends. We’ve had so much fun. I learned more jokes.  I’ve gotten more jokes to tell.  I have jokes I can never say again.

“I’m so proud of the fact that this album has renewed my faith in mankind because this is what the business is supposed to be in the beginning, where you walk into a room and you can be you and I can be me and we can have some fun together.  Egos were left not at the door but never came in the room.

“Nine months later and beyond my wildest dreams, as far as creativity, something was finished that even blew me away.”

‘AMERICAN IDOL’S’ BIG KISS OFF – SHANNON MAGRANE GOES HOME

Shannon Magrane sings for her life on AMERICAN IDOL which aired Thursday, March 15 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. CR: Michael Becker / FOX

Shannon Magrane sang for her life on American Idol, but it wasn’t enough to keep her in the competition Thursday night.

Fans might be bent about the outcome, but AI judge, Steven Tyler says it was the right decision.

It’s all unfolding. They all sing so good, Tyler begins. “They’re not going to get thrown off for their voice. They’re going to get thrown off because their voice didn’t deliver in a song.”

Tyler’s seen an improvement in the last few weeks and expects more growth as the season wears on – and as the talent is iced – one by one. Fellow judge Randy Jackson agrees.

“I see improvement every week. It’s really tough,” Jackson acknowledges.

Still, the lone female judge Jennifer Lopez was burning-up over the bottom three – a trio of women.

“I don’t like seeing three girls in the bottom, I don’t think it’s fair,” she laments. “I don’t think they had the most challenged performances last night. You should reward the really good performances.”

Magrane was upbeat after getting the boot, but why wouldn’t she be? At 16, the singer just got a huge jumpstart on her career.

“I’m one of the few teenager girls to have come this far,” she points out. “All the 16 year olds like that. It’s not over.”

Click onto the video below for scoop from Steven Tyler, Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Shannon Magrane.
