Jeremy Sisto and Cheryl Hines – Living in “Suburgatory” and Lovin’ Limbo

SUBURGATORY stars Jeremy Sisto (left) and Cheryl Hines (right), a sitcom on the ABC Television Network. (ABC/MICHAEL ANSELL) JEREMY SISTO, CHERYL HINES

Jeremy Sisto has made quite a change from his character as Detective Cyrus Lupo on Law & Order. Sisto is now playing George Altman, the hot new neighbor in a man-hungry neighborhood on Suburgatory (Wednesdays, 8:30 p.m. ET/PT, ABC).

And after starring as Cheryl David, the long-suffering wife to Larry David on Curb Your Enthusiasm, Cheryl Hines is enjoying her role as Dallas Royce, George‘s sexy neighbor who clearly has the hots for him.

Sure it’s a new type of series for both of them, but they tell EntertainmentHeartbeat.com – in the video below – that they’re having a blast chewing the scenery. And they promise the show will gain momentum as the season develops…even if it means Sisto has to slip on girlie jeans now and then.

Diane Neal Talks “Law & Order: SVU” Post Christopher Meloni

Law & Order: SVU (Wednesdays, 10:00 p.m. ET/PT, NBC) has changed dramatically since the exit of original cast member Christopher Meloni, who played Detective Elliott Stabler on the series, but somehow it’s remained a solid show.

How? Well, according to Diane Neal, who plays Assistant District Attorney Casey Novak on the drama, it all boils down to the scripts.

“It’s still really good. That’s the thing. It’s actually still really good,” she exclaims. “The scripts are really fantastic.”

Still, the actress does admit that the first day on the set of the show, post Christopher Meloni, was strange.

“It was really weird. The episode that’s on tonight is the first one that was filming and I kept texting Chris with ‘Where are you? It’s so weird without you,’ ” Neal confesses. “I missed his meaty presence here because he’s huge and all muscle-y. Then I got to know the new kids and Mariska (Hargitay) was in the best form ever and I was like, ‘This is going to be awesome.’ It’s a little bit different, but it’s better somehow.”

Meloni wasn’t the only change, however.  Stephanie March has returned for a measure of the shows, as well as Linus Roche, who has transitioned from the original Law & Order to SVU. Danny Pino has joined the cast as Detective Nick Amarro and Kelli Giddish plays Detective Amanda Rollins. But, to hear Neal tell it, the cast will be a bit more fluid.

“Everyone was kind of in a new boat all over again,” Neal points out. “I’m guest starring on a show that was my show. I’m just a guest in a place that isn’t mine anymore. I’m like, ‘Wow, this feels really bizarre.’ I don’t have a dressing room. It’s a weird feeling, but I’m like, ‘Oh, OK.’ Danny (Pino) and Kelli (Giddish) are stepping into what is kind of a well-oiled machine, but it’s such a new machine that we’re all kind of feeling our way out. The good part is everyone is incredibly nice and talented, so it’s been a really fun process all trying to learn it together.”

All they need is Sam Waterston and it’ll be like old times.

Tyrese Gibson – An “Open Invitation” to “Fast Five” and a Teddy Pendergrass Biopic on the Horizon

Pictured: Tyrese Gibson (left) and Vin Diesel (right) in a scene from "Fast Five."

Tyrese Gibson is not an actor posing as a singer or a singer posing as an actor. He wants his fans to know that he’s both and will deliver solidly for each of his projects.

“A lot going on out there,” he acknowledges. “Got a Fast Five DVD and Blu-ray unleashed – and in less than 30 days I’ve got my new album coming out. It’s called Open Invitation and I cannot wait to share it with the world.”

There are plenty of fun extras on that Fast Five disc and Gibson claims viewers will see a side of filmmaking they’re usually not privy to.

“There is a lot of behind-the-scenes and making-of that’s funny as Hell,” he assures. “There is also the commentary with the director and the producer talking about all the different scenes and they also got something called Paul Walker TV and Tyrese TV, where the cameras is following us behind the scenes. You’re able to get a sense of the movies being created and made through our eyes, which is a lot of fun.”

Gibson knows his fans are crucial to his success and he’s hitting the social media hard to get his message out there.

“I don’t want your support, I need your supported on this album,” he pleads with his audience. “I appreciate you.”

He produced his new CD on his own and is making it available on iTunes and other outlets worldwide. And though he did it this his way, he is relying on traditional marketing from his label to get the disc in stories.

And he won’t be sitting around waiting for his next project. Gibson is set to star in the drama Ruby McCollum, where an educated black woman is railroaded into a death sentence after the murder of a prominent white physician.

“It’s heavy and deep,” he adds.

He’s also set to play Teddy Pendergrass in a biopic based on the famed R&B singer’s life. And though he appears too young to have enjoyed Pendergrass’s music, Gibson confesses he was indoctrinated at an early age.

“I’m 32 so my mother and my family listened to Teddy Pendergrass all day, everyday when I was growing up as a kid so the seeds were planted early on,” he recalls. “I never thought in my lifetime that I would grow up and end up playing Teddy Pendergrass in a movie one day, but I’m just going to do my best and try to do right by him, representing him and put down my best performance. It’ll be my first time singing in a movie.”

Whether it’s music or film, Gibson shows no signs of slowing down. He’s seizing opportunities as they arise and believes it’s important to jump in no matter how full his schedule is.

“It’s America, baby. We love it that way,” he says. “Love to stay busy and keep it moving. We’re robbing ourselves if we don’t take advantage of each opportunity. The fact that we have access to do so many different things and add a bunch of slices to the side of your name as far as career, why limit yourself to just doing one thing.”

It helps if you can do all those different things well and apparently Gibson has tapped into the secret know-how of that.

ACADEMY AND LACMA WORK TOWARD TOWERING CINEMA CULTURAL CENTER

Charlie Chaplin and Jackie Coogan in "The Kid" from 1921

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) have taken a step toward realizing a museum dedicated to motion pictures and the creation of a new and unique cultural center for the city of Los Angeles.

On Tuesday night (10/4), the Academy‘s Board of Governors joined their LACMA counterparts in agreeing to sign a memorandum of understanding to work in good faith in establishing the Academy’s movie museum in the historic May Company building, currently known as LACMA West.

The memo paves the way for the two organizations to discuss details of a future contract and for the Academy to begin developing plans for fundraising, design, exhibitions, visitor experience, and modifications to this historic site.

“It is appropriate and long overdue for the city that is home to the motion picture industry to recognize this art form with a museum of its own. The LACMA Board is delighted to be facilitating this important cultural event, which has special resonance for me, having spent most of my life dedicated to the great art of movies,” said co-chair of the LACMA Board of Trustees Terry Semel. “The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures will provide a much needed destination for cultural tourists and Los Angelenos to learn more about cinema, and the setting could not be more ideal, nestled next to the largest encyclopedic art museum in the Western United States.”

According to Academy President Tom Sherak, “The new museum will be a world-class destination that is a tangible representation of the Academy’s mission. And the idea of our museum being part of a larger cultural center for the arts, in this city that we love, was incredibly compelling to the Academy Board.”

Plans by various groups to create a movie museum date back to the mid-1960s, but Tuesday night’s vote represents the most significant step yet taken in bringing these hopes to fruition. The Academy hopes to sign a long-term lease for the facility, and will retain autonomy over all aspects of its museum while benefiting from LACMA‘s experience in managing a premier arts institution.

The Academy will mount a new fundraising campaign for the museum, which will give visitors an entertaining and interactive experience illuminating the way movies reflect culture and the impact they have upon it. The museum is expected to feature both permanent and rotating exhibitions inside the facility’s 300,000 gross square feet.

LACMA West, which formerly housed the May Company department store, was built in 1939, one of the greatest years in film history with such releases as Gone with the Wind and The Wizard of Oz. “Finally, our industry will have a dedicated space where we can inform and excite people about the endless range and possibilities of motion pictures,” said Academy CEO Dawn Hudson. “This new facility will make our resources and activities – our programming, our archives, and our library – even more visible and accessible all year round.” According to LACMA CEO and Wallis Annenberg Director Michael Govan, “This represents a seismic shift in the cultural landscape of Los Angeles, and an extraordinary new resource for residents proud of their local history, and for fans of cinema worldwide.”

Marg Helgenberger Danson on Her Last Season of “CSI”

Marg Helgenberger stars as Catherine Willows on CSI on the CBS Television Network. Photo: ROBERT VOETS/CBS ©2011 CBS BROADCASTING INC. All Rights Reserved.

Marg Helgenberger says she’ll be leaving her starring role as Catherine Willows on CSI (Wednesdays, 10:00 p.m. ET/PT, CBS) once this season has finished. It’s not surprising, the procedural drama has had a few changes in the past few years and not all have reinvigorated the franchise.

This year, however, Ted Danson (Cheers) has been a welcome addition, breathing new life into the series. That’s a fact that hasn’t been lost on Helgenberger.

“I had no idea who they were going to hire to replace Laurence (Fishburne), which was kind of a shock,” Helgenberger admits. “None of us expected it. But, Ted was such a refreshing idea. I thought, ‘Wow! It’s so completely different.’ I’m a fan of his acting. I’m a fan of him as a person, what he is doing with Oceana and I’ve known him kind of in social situations. So, I was like, ‘Bring it on!’ We’ve been enjoying it.”

Is it enough of a boost to get Helgenberger to reconsider her decision to leave the show? Not really, but she is leaving the door ever so slightly ajar.

“The odds that this is my last season? It’s pretty strong,” she stresses. “They’ve always left the door open for me.”

Paula Abdul Riding High on “The X Factor”

Paula Abdul is enjoying her new ride on The X Factor (Wednesdays, Thursdays, 8:00 p.m. ET/PT, FOX) primarily because audiences are finally getting a chance to see just how versatile her talents are as well as the skills among the rest of the judges/mentors.

“We bring experience, we bring stage performance, we bring amazing success as record producers and as executives, producers, stage design and directing,” Abdul points out.

Plus, she tells us, the time out of the public eye after she left American Idol allowed her to prepare for the scrutiny she’s currently under – and helped her get ready for another round with her cohort Simon Cowell.

It is a whole different experience for me in the sense that I get Simon – he gets me,” she begins. “I understand the nature of reality television. I’m here to help make the best show ever and Simon knows that. That’s why he contacted me immediately after I left [American Idol]. I’m thrilled to be back and it’s like riding a bike. It’s just that I’m riding the next level of 10 speeds with a little power pack on the back.”

And though Cowell and Abdul trade jabs on camera, she claims they really have a strong connection to each other.

“Believe it or not we became really good friends and we talk on the phone. It’s just when we get in front of each other, the camera brings out the worst in both of us and also the best,” Abdul insists. “I will say this, after nine years of working together with Simon, I really got a sense of understanding the complex man that he is. And he got a chance to really understand me. It became a very comfortable back and forth, but passionate. We’re both passionate people.”

‘THE ROLLING STONE YEARS’ WHEN ROCK WAS INNOCENT, INTIMATE AND ACCESSABLE

"The Rolling Stone Years" by Baron Wolman book cover courtesy Randy Alexander / Randex Communications

“You can’t plan for a career like mine,” Baron Wolman says. “Yes, I chose to be a professional photographer but my tour of duty with Rolling Stone was a fortunate accident, a gift from the photo gods.”

A two-time Amazon #1 Best Seller on two separate Arts & Photography lists, the new 176-page volume is holiday gift consideration for music fans. Filled with photos and text, The Rolling Stone Years by Baron Wolman is illustrated throughout with “some of the most memorable unguarded images of the era” (Rolling Stone), ranging from iconic to rare to never-before-seen.

This “gorgeous” (The Morton Report) collection covers some of the most significant artists and events from rock’s most fertile period, visualizing the music through images of Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, The Rolling Stones, The Doors, The Who, The Grateful Dead, Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Santana, and dozens more!

“The reception everywhere of me, of my photographs and now, my book, has been astonishing,” says Wolman of his successful world tour. “Over the years I’ve always been amazed how my much my early rock photography has meant to so many people, but experiencing it first-hand throughout the world has been an eye-opener. I am blessed to have been able to record such a significant moment in history.”

Wolman returns to the U.S. with scheduled appearances in Austin, TX (Texas Book Festival, Oct. 22-23), and his native San Francisco (Dec. 4), where he not only witnessed so much of what is doubtless the most important period of change in popular music and popular culture, but helped shape it through his iconic shots from rock’s most fertile era. Wolman also is scheduled to visit Europe in November to sign books and exhibit his rock photography in London and Rotterdam.

Rolling Stone magazine encapsulated and distilled the most noteworthy events and changes as they were taking place. Each issue would speak to this evolving youth culture in a language that was all its own.

For years Wolman has been asked to talk about the photos, how they came to be, and what happened on assignment at the various shoots. This book answers those questions and more. Grateful that he and his camera were around at a seminal time in the history of the music business and popular culture, The Rolling Stone Years is his “thank you” for the privilege.

“This is more than a photo book,” says Wolman. “I hope people spend some time reading the text.  We look at pictures and wonder how they came to be.  Or we speculate a bit about the life of a photographer, especially one who has been on the front lines, the front lines of any subject, be it music, war, politics, etc.  In my book I tried to provide a small window into that photographer’s life and offer a few words about the origin of the photos.”

details images from an era in rock just before the celebrity machine got cranking and the corporations took over, when fewer barriers between the artist and the photographer allowed Wolman extraordinary access, the likes of which would be impossible to capture today. And he captured them vividly – not only through the camera’s lens, but with a photographic memory that readily recounts the colorful stories surrounding his unforgettable encounters. Among the more than 200 images are a rail-thin, T-shirted Pete Townshend recording parts of Tommy at the piano; Frank Zappa posing on a tractor at an abandoned construction site near his home; and Pink Floyd (with Syd Barrett, who pretended to drop an acid sugar cube) posing on a Sausalito hotel fire escape on their first American visit.

The Rolling Stone Years makes it easy to see why Wolman’s photographs became Rolling Stone’s graphic centerpiece during the three years they were published regularly in the magazine. Over 40 years later, those same photographs, picture memories of the ‘60s, are now widely exhibited and collected. And Baron’s long-time mantra, “Mixing Business with Pleasure Since 1965,” continues to be his guiding light.

Doug Savant and Felicity Huffman are acutely aware that the fans of Desperate Housewives want the on-screen couple, Tom and Lynette Scavo to stay together and they both would, too.

But, in this last season of the series, nothing says conflict like a good marital breakup in primetime.

Still, as Savant and Huffman explain in the video below, they’d like to work out all the conflicts on the block before Desperate Housewives closes the doors for good.
