LIONEL RICHIE DEBUTS SONGS FROM HIS COUNTRY MUSIC ALBUM ‘TUSKEGEE’

International icon Lionel Richie will release Tuskegee, his country duets album, in March on Mercury Nashville, after debuting songs on the national broadcast of the 45th Annual Country Music Association Awards.

During the broadcast Richie will perform select duets of his runaway hits with Little Big Town, Darius Rucker and Rascal Flatts.

Surpassing his creative and personal boundaries, Richie comes full circle with the innovative and personal Tuskegee, performing 13 of his most revered “anthems of our day” with some of the biggest names in country music, including Sugarland’s Jennifer Nettles, Tim McGraw, Blake Shelton, Darius Rucker, Rascal Flatts, Kenny Chesney, Billy Currington, Little Big Town and Jason Aldean.

On this worldwide, multi-genre album, Richie is also joined by Shania Twain, Kenny Rogers, Willie Nelson and Jimmy Buffett.

Richie’s career includes album sales of more than 100 million, 22 Top 10s, five Grammys, an Academy Award for Best Original Song, a Golden Globe, and a host of other awards from virtually every major entertainment organization.

It was when Conway Twitty sang Three Times a Lady along with songs such as Lady and Deep River Women that Richie knew country music was clearly omnipresent in the lyrics he wrote.

“As my songwriting progressed, I realized that my songs perfectly translated to the country genre,” says Richie. “I was born and raised in Tuskegee, Alabama. I am a country boy and proud of it. To do this project just felt natural.”

“Growing up with country, R&B, gospel, and classical music from my grandmother and pop, Tuskegee was the perfect melting pot for my influences as a writer,” Richie says, “and the title, Tuskegee, is a validation of my growing up there—the place I call home.”

The 45th Annual Country Music Association Awards airs live November 9 at 8 p.m. ET on the ABC Television Network.

In Theaters – October 28th, 2011

The Rum Diary is based on the debut novel by Hunter S. Thompson. It’s no secret that Johnny Depp was a huge fan and close friend of Thompson. He even played the gonzo journalist in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

In The Rum Diary, Depp plays Paul Kemp, a disillusioned and bored journalist who travels to the pristine island of Puerto Rico to write for a local newspaper that is run by demoralized editor Lotterman (Richard Jenkins). Naturally he gets immersed in the rum-soaked life of the island, but also becomes obsessed with Chenault (Amber Heard), an attractive Connecticut-born fiancée of an American entrepreneur named Sanderson (Aaron Eckhart).

Kemp eventually has to make a decision, to write a positive piece about Sanderson’s businese scheme for Puerto Rico, or to try to undermine Sanderson’s chances of success.

Puss in Boots takes place long before Boots (Antonio Banderas) even met Shrek. Back then he was a notorious fighter, lover and outlaw.

Boots becomes a hero after he sets off on an adventure with sexy Kitty Softpaws (Salma Hayek) and the mastermind Humpty Dumpty (Zach Galifianakis) to save his town.

The movie utilizes the voice talents of a number of famed actors including Billy Bob Thornton and Amy Sedaris.

In Time is a sci-fi suspense-thriller that takes place in a world where people stop aging at 25 years old, but then only live an additional year. However,  wealthy people can buy time while the poor…not so much.

When Will Salas (Justin Timberlake) is falsely accused of murder, he must figure out a way to bring down a system so he can make it through another day – and hopefully much longer.

Anonymous is set in Elizabethan England and speculates on the notion that William Shakespeare was merely a name on his classic works.

The movie makes its case for the real author being, in fact, Edward De Vere, Earl of Oxford (Rhys Ifans).

The pic is directed by Roland Emmerich of Independence Day and Godzilla fame.

The killer spells continue in Dial D for Diddly, when Ned Flanders (Harry Shearer), devout preacher by day, transforms into a cold-blooded vigilante by night.

In the final terrifying tale, In the Na’Vi, Bart (Nancy Cartwright) and Milhouse (Pamela Hayden) are assigned a mission to access a sacred extract on a distant planet. EDDIE MURPHY COMES OUT OF ‘HIDING’ FOR ROLLING STONE

After years of near-silence, Eddie Murphy gives a rare extensive print interview in the new issue of Rolling Stone, and he opens up about the ups and downs of his long career, his possible return to stand-up, his Oscar hosting plans and much more.

Murphy is baffled by his reputation as a near-recluse: “I leave my house all the time,” he says. “But I’m not at all the Hollywood parties. I’m grown, and where else am I supposed to be? I’m supposed to be home . . . If I were out in the clubs every night, they’d be saying, ‘That’s a shame, look at him, 50 years old, he’s still out at these clubs.’ Recluses are nasty, with long nails, don’t wash their ass. . . . I’m too vain to be a recluse. But homebody, absolutely. I’m 50 years old, beautiful house, I’m supposed to be home, chilling.”

Other highlights from the story:

Murphy says that his days of making family movies may be over. “I don’t have any interest in that right now. There’s really no blueprint, but I’m trying to do some edgy stuff. And I only want to do what I really want to do, otherwise I’m content to sit here and play my guitar all day. I always tell people now that I’m a semiretired gentleman of leisure, and occasionally I’ll go do some work to break the boredom up.”

Murphy has decided not to make Beverly Hills Cop IV. “They’re not doing it. What I’m trying to do now is produce a TV show starring Axel Foley’s son, and Axel is the chief of police now in Detroit. I’d do the pilot, show up here and there. None of the movie scripts were right; it was trying to force the premise. If you have to force something, you shouldn’t be doing it. It was always a rehash of the old thing. It was always wrong.”

Murphy hasn’t performed stand-up since the late 1980s, but recently, he’s given some thought to trying again. “If I ever get back onstage, I’m going to have a really great show for you all. An hour and a half of stand-up and about 40 minutes of my shitty band . . . But I haven’t done it since I was 27, so why f*** with it? But that’s just weighing both sides. It comes up too much for me to not do it again. It’s like, when it hits me, I’ll do it, eventually.”

Murphy addresses reports that he stormed out of the Oscars after losing the best supporting actor award. “What happened was after I lost, I’m just chilling, and I was sitting next to Beyoncé’s pops, and he leans over and grabs me and is like, [solemn voice] ‘There will be other times.’ And then you feel Spielberg on your shoulder going, ‘It’s all right, man.’ Then Clint Eastwood walks by: ‘Hey, guy . . . ’ So I was like, ‘It’s not going to be this night!’ [Mimes getting up] I didn’t have sour grapes at all. That’s another reason I wanted to host the show – to show them that I’m down with it.”

The full interview is in the upcoming issue of Rolling Stone on newsstands Friday. More at www.rollingstone.com.

DR. DREW ON MICHAEL LOHAN’S ARREST

Michael Lohan mug shot arrest on Long Island after violating a restraining order taken out by an ex-girlfriend.

This morning, Michael Lohan from Season five of Dr. Drew’s Celebrity Rehab and who is also the father of actress Lindsay Lohan, was arrested on domestic violence charges, after an alleged physical altercation with on-and-off girlfriend Kate Major.

“At the time of his discharge, Bob Forrest and I both told him that he would end up in jail again,” Dr. Drew said about Michael‘s arrest on his TV show today.

Mike‘s been doing okay. He’s working, he’s trying to do better but this is really a backslide to a complete reversion to his old behaviors. This is what he and Kate do routinely. This is the pattern they’re in. Unless they both go get treatment, this isn’t going to change!”

Mike knows what he needs to do. He just needs to get back in the game and do it!”

Cook Up Some Halloween Flavor with the Help of “Dead Celebrities”

Having a Hollywood-themed party for Halloween? What’s on the menu could be just as important as the costume, if you plan carefully.

How about a number of fancy dishes from the stars that have taken their last curtain call?

Frank Decaro (The Daily Show movie critic) has compiled recipes from a who’s who from Hollywood’s golden era and added them to a convenient book for easy planning.

The Dead Celebrity Cookbook features nearly 150 recipes from stars like Charlton Heston, Johnny Carson and Lucille Ball.

The chapters are cleverly designed with a bit of gallows humor and a small bio on the dead celeb. So, you might find recipes like Alfred Hitchcock’s Quiche Lorraine, Janet Leigh’s Giteau Dore and Anthony Perkins’s Tuna Salad in A Psycho Shower section, while Jerry Orbach’s Pan Fried Steak and Peter Falk’s Pork Chops show up in Watching the Detectives (Cook) chapter.

Still, you won’t find a spicy dish from the recently departed contemporary stars like Amy Winehouse, but it’s probably a good bet she didn’t do too much of her own cooking – in the kitchen – anyway.

The Dead Celebrity Cookbook is already in stores and sells for about $25.

RHEA PERLMAN ON KIRSTIE ALLEY AND ‘OLIVER’S GHOST’

Rhea Perlman stars in OLIVER'S GHOST, A Hallmark Channel Original Movie World Premiere Saturday, October 22 9p/8c. Photo courtesy of Hallmark Channel.

Multiple Emmy® winner Rhea Perlman talked to Entertainment Heartbeat about several issues, but begins describing her character (librarian/historian Eloise) in Hallmark‘s new TV movie Oliver’s Ghost.

“I’ve really made a study of what’s going on in the doings of the house over the years, (about) the haunted house that’s the centerpiece of the movie,” Perlman says,  “And all the things that have happened since five Rutledges lived there and beyond…I give him (Oliver McCaffrey, played by Nicholas Stargel) a lot to go on when he’s investigating the ghost.”

Of the several mysteries occurring in the film, whether Perlman‘s Eloise considers the ‘disturbing phenomenon’ to be an actual ghost or not is another puzzle-piece.  “I believe in something inside of you that some people might call a spirit…and we have this conversation in the movie.  I, as an actress, I think I believe in it. But in the movie it’s very ambiguous.”

Perlman keeps herself busy with several child-related charities but has found some wiggle room to work with Kirstie Alley in a pilot sitcom for ABC this December.

“I think it’s going to be the most fun ever.  I work with Kirstie and she’s truly one of the funniest people on the planet,” Perlman says and jumps into the plot.  “It’s about an Italian family that moves from Brooklyn – a working class family – but her husband has done well in the bakery business and they buy a house in Connecticut and they’re kind of a fish out of water over there, they have three kids, and me and my husband are the entire in-laws and we move in with them as well. It’s like a family comedy and very funny, and I can’t wait to do it.”

While Perlman will be playing Alley‘s mother-in-law, there’s actually only three years difference in their ages. Perlman is genuinely thunderstruck that we would bring the issue up at all. “She’ll play a little younger, I’ll play a little older…It’ll work.”

Perlman is so believable she could easily play Alley‘s daughter and get away with it

Oliver’s Ghost, also starring Martin Mull, premieres this Saturday, 9:00 pm ET/PT on the Hallmark Television Network.
